The Planet and the Rose Review
Built & reviewed by D.J. Gibson Build #181
Summary Table

A book nook does not have to be a marathon project to feel rewarding. CuteBee & The Little Prince: The Planet and the Rose is a compact, 68-piece mini book nook that turns a straightforward build into a small, layered story. Clear colour instructions, well-fitting MDF parts and a simple lighting kit make it an appealing choice for beginners—and for fans of The Little Prince.
There is one part worth taking slowly, though: the delicate acrylic pieces. The main structure goes together easily, but the narrow stars and other acrylic details ask for a little more patience.
What is included in The Planet and the Rose?

- Five printed MDF boards
- A printed acrylic sheet
- A blank PVC panel
- A lighting kit with one LED, battery pack, touch control panel and connecting wire
- A dust cover
No glue is supplied. On this build, the MDF pieces came away easily from their boards and fitted properly. The print quality was very high, with the artwork neatly aligned inside the cut areas. That clean fit and finish makes a good first impression, especially in a kit designed to be quick and approachable.
A little story told in layers

The scene is constructed in layers, so the story unfolds as you look further into the finished nook. Rather than relying on lots of separate miniature furniture, it uses the spacing between scene panels to create depth. It is an effective approach for a small kit: there is more to discover than a single flat picture.
Acrylic clouds are fitted to the side walls, giving the impression that they float within the scene. Acrylic stars are inserted into the ceiling panel, adding another level of detail above the layered setting.
Clear instructions, with one fiddly acrylic challenge
The colour instructions are simple to follow, and the main assembly is easy and quick. The MDF parts were straightforward to release and fitted as they should, without the frustration of repeatedly adjusting poorly matched pieces.
The acrylic parts need more care. Many are long and narrow, making them more prone to breaking when removed from the sheet. CuteBee supplies spares for most of the longer pieces, which is a welcome precaution.
Removing the protective film from the narrow acrylic stars was the fiddliest part of the whole build. These were among the most difficult acrylic pieces I have encountered for film removal, possibly because of their slender shape. This is a good place to slow down rather than let the kit’s small size tempt you to rush.
One LED, touch control and a rear battery drawer

The lighting kit contains a single LED bulb, a battery pack, a touch control panel and connecting wire. These are installed in the ceiling area alongside the acrylic stars.
Once the sides and top are in place, you assemble a drawer for the battery compartment. It tilts out from the back wall, providing access to the battery pack after the build is complete.
With the battery pack in its drawer, the blank PVC panel is positioned behind the rear scene before the back wall is installed. The front frame and dust cover go on last, completing the small enclosure.

Is The Planet and the Rose suitable for beginners?
Yes. Its low piece count, clear instructions and well-fitting MDF parts make this an approachable first mini book nook. The main caution is the delicate acrylic: a beginner should allow time to remove the pieces and their protective film carefully.

Final verdict
The Planet and the Rose is small, sturdy and enjoyable to construct. Its layered scene, floating acrylic clouds and ceiling stars give this simple build plenty of charm. The awkward protective film on the stars is the main patience test, but it does not overshadow the pleasure of seeing the scene come together.
For a fan of The Little Prince, or a beginner looking for a manageable introduction to book nooks, it makes a lovely compact addition to the shelf.
