Whilst this kit is unbranded the model number SQ-77 shows it is manufactured by Joincon.
Instructions
The instructions are diagrams in black and white in an A4 manual and they are very good and clear with no ambiguity at all.
The Build
This is a common these book nook kit as it is a book shop. A lot of them are 5 blocks with only cover so you only make about 30 books in total. The book cover adhesive is very good which has been a failing in a number of kits I have built recently. The open page (mountain & valley) books are very nice as they have perforated folds already which makes them look very clean.
The main part of the build is 5 shelves which form the large bookcase at the back of the shop. Nothing complicated during these steps if you follow the instructions carefully.
It is predominantly a snap and click model with minimal glue required although I did use it in some places where the join felt slightly loose.
There are 11 scrolls to roll. Top tip: roll the scroll around a cocktail stick and then cut the end off with your crafting knife. This makes the scrolls nice & compact.
When placing the furniture onto the store base I did use some glue as these did not feel very secure.
The Tricky Part
The window frames are the only reason why I would not rank this kit as ideal for a beginner. The curved frames are very fragile and you need to ensure you use the notch markings on the frames to align with the upright. Slotting the frames into the door is also a challenge.
As per normal the screws for the door hinges are tiny. The screwdriver provided does have a small magnetic capability which made it slightly easy. Top tip: when securing the hinges I fix them in place with B7000 glue so they do not move then you are trying to insert the screws – it definitely makes things quicker.
Lighting
Only 1 LED and a touch sensor is provided in the kit which once again is ideal for a beginner but is not much of a challenge for a more experienced builder. It was very straightforward and the touch sensor worked perfectly.
Final Thought
If it wasn’t for the window frames I would definitely rank this as a beginner kit but they are very fragile which you do not want on your first build. It is front opening so you can enjoy the books and features inside. It is a pleasant kit but as I only keep a select few for display I will not be keeping it for long
