Why Build a Christmas Book Nook in June?
You may be wondering why I decided to build a Christmas-themed book nook at the beginning of summer.
The answer is simple: this Saturday I will be exhibiting my collection of book nooks at a local public event, and I wanted to include at least one model that shows visitors that Christmas-themed book nooks exist as well. Not everyone realizes that the hobby covers all seasons and holidays, so this seemed like a perfect opportunity.
First Impressions
This kit was purchased on Temu earlier this year. It is sold under the name Christmas Street Corner and appears to be one of the many generic, budget-friendly book nook kits available from various manufacturers.
Despite its modest origins, I was pleasantly surprised.
This is a very straightforward and enjoyable build that would be perfectly suitable for complete beginners or for someone building their second or third book nook. Nothing is overly complicated, the instructions are clear, and the entire lighting system comes pre-wired.
What’s Inside the Box?

The kit consists of standard MDF sheets, pre-wired LED lighting, printed decorations, oil-paper window inserts, and all necessary accessories.
The lighting system includes six LEDs that are already wired and ready to install, making the electrical side almost effortless.
The instructions are fully colored and easy to follow throughout the build.

The Build Process
Construction begins with the lower section of the scene, featuring gift boxes, a Santa Claus sleigh, and a three-dimensional Christmas tree.
The centerpiece of the design is a charming mountain village scene. Tall narrow houses are built around the central area, while the surrounding mountain scenery is printed directly onto the side walls of the book nook, creating the illusion of a small settlement hidden deep within a snowy valley.
Assembly is almost entirely based on tabs and slots. Parts fit together well, precision is good, and very little glue is required.
The houses receive translucent oil-paper inserts behind the windows, which create a pleasant illuminated effect once the lighting is installed.
Customizations

Although this kit doesn’t really demand extensive modifications, I made a few small improvements.
Christmas Tree Upgrade
The original Christmas tree was mounted on a visible wooden base. I removed the base, drilled a small hole through the floor, and mounted the tree directly into the scenery.
This simple change makes the tree look much more natural and integrated into the scene.
Warmer Lighting
The supplied LEDs are cold white, which felt somewhat out of place in a cozy winter village.
To create a warmer atmosphere, I coated several LEDs with transparent orange UV resin. This transformed the light into a pleasant warm-yellow glow that better matches a Christmas setting.
Snow Effects
I sprayed the Christmas tree with artificial snow spray to create a more realistic winter appearance.
For additional snow effects around the scene, I used leftover snow gel from my Kyoto Snow Whisper project, although any modeling snow product would work equally well.
These simple additions significantly improve the overall atmosphere without requiring major modifications.
Recommended Upgrades
If you decide to build this kit, I would strongly recommend:
- Coloring all visible MDF edges.
- Adding snow gel or snow texture products.
- Applying snow spray to the Christmas tree.
- Warming the LED color if you prefer a cozier winter atmosphere.
Beyond these simple enhancements, the kit honestly doesn’t require much additional work.
Difficulty
This is one of those kits that simply works. There are no difficult assemblies, no complex electronics, and very few opportunities to make mistakes.
For experienced builders it may feel somewhat simple, but for newcomers it offers an excellent introduction to the hobby.
A pleasant, beginner-friendly Christmas book nook that delivers exactly what it promises. It may not be the most detailed or ambitious model on the market, but it is enjoyable to build, visually appealing, and makes an excellent seasonal display piece.
Enjoy the photos and videos—and Merry Christmas… only six months early!
