She looked concerned.
āOh no⦠what is it? Alcohol? Cigarettes? Drugs?ā
I shook my head.
āNo⦠far worse.ā
She leaned forward.
āGo onā¦ā
āIām addicted to book nooks.ā
She paused. Blinked. Then stared at me and saidā¦
āWait⦠what on earth is a book nook?ā
š¤ That Got Me Thinkingā¦
That moment pretty much sums up how most people discover this hobby.
Confusion.
Curiosity.
Then suddenly⦠youāre deep into it.
So I asked the community to share their book nook stashā¦
ā¦and what came back confirmed it:
š This isnāt just a hobby
š Itās a full-blown obsession
š¦ It Starts With Oneā¦

Nobody plans a collection.
You buy your first kit thinking:
āIāll just try one and see if I like it.ā
A couple of weeks later, someone in the group said:
āIām on my 2nd build and already have 10 stashed⦠I only started 2 weeks ago.ā
And thatās how it begins.
š Then Things Escalate⦠Quickly

At first, it feels manageable.
A few kits here and there. Nothing crazy.
Until you start seeing comments like:
āI have 11 in my stash⦠and 4 more on the way.ā
āMineās only at 7⦠with 3 on the way.ā
āI feel rather inadequate with only 4ā¦ā
And thatās when it hits youā¦
š Youāre not behind
š Youāre just getting started
š° Full-Blown Addiction

“The 100+ Club”
Then come the serious numbers.
The ones that make you pause⦠and then feel strangely reassured.
āI counted mine yesterday⦠I have 123 waiting their turn.ā
āIāve got about 170⦠(retirement planning).ā
ā52 stashed away and one on the way.ā
ā51 with 9 en-route š¤¦š»āāļøā
āAbout 66⦠probably double that now.ā
And my personal favourite:
ā17 kits were delivered while I was away for a month⦠Iād only bought 4.ā
At this point, weāre not talking about a hobby anymore.
š This is logistics
š This is storage strategy
š This is commitment
š Storage Becomes a Strategy Game

“Storage Problems Begin”
One of the most relatable parts?
Where people are actually keeping these things.
āIāve emptied a closet⦠but there are still more in the dining room.ā
āFive boxes are stored elsewhere⦠and two are on the way.ā
āMultiple hiding spots š ā
āMy stash is all over the place because I ran out of roomā¦ā
And then thereās this absolute gem:
āI rearrange them like Tetris because my husband said I canāt buy more if they donāt fit in the bookcase⦠so I HAVE to make them fit šā
This is the moment you realise:
š Book nook collecting is part hobbyā¦
š Part space optimisation challenge
š§ Itās Not Just Collecting⦠Itās Storytelling
What really stood out wasnāt just the volumeā¦
It was the way people engage with the hobby.
One builder said:
āI heavily customise my kits to fit a storytelling narrative⦠I even write notes so everything fits into my world.ā
And thatās the difference.
These arenāt just kits.
Theyāre:
- miniature worlds
- ongoing stories
- creative outlets
The stash isnāt just a backlogā¦
š Itās a library of ideas waiting to happen
š The Denial Phase
Early Stage Denial
Not everyone jumps straight to 100+ kits (yet).
Some are still in what weāll politely call⦠early-stage acceptance:
āI have 2⦠and one on the way š ā
āOne Iām working on and one in my stash⦠hoping for more soon.ā
āI have zero.ā
(Weāll check back in with that last one in a few monthsā¦)
š And Then Thereās the Honestyā¦
Some comments didnāt even try to justify it:
āYou really want me to unpack closets? š¤Ŗā
āIām not looking haha šā
āI think I hear ICE at my door!!!!ā
āHere is the duplicate pile šā
At this point, the community isnāt denying anything.
Theyāre embracing it.
š§ Confession Timeā¦
I started with one kit.
Now?
Iāve got a backlog that would probably take me a year to finishā¦
ā¦and Iām still browsing for the next one.
š„ Why This Hobby Gets You
Thereās something dangerously satisfying about book nooks:
- Theyāre creative, but structured
- Detailed, but achievable
- Relaxing, but rewarding
And every finished piece makes you think:
š āJust one moreā¦ā
š If Youāre Just Getting Startedā¦
If youāre still at the
āWhat on earth is a book nook?ā stageā¦
Start simple.
But be warned:
š You probably wonāt stop at one
(And thatās completely normal⦠apparently š)
š¬ Be Honestā¦
How many kits are in your stash right now?
And more importantlyā¦
How many are actually finished?
