šŸ„ ā€œI Think I’ve Got an Addiction Problemā€¦ā€

She looked concerned.
ā€œOh no… what is it? Alcohol? Cigarettes? Drugs?ā€

I shook my head.
ā€œNo… far worse.ā€

She leaned forward.
ā€œGo onā€¦ā€

ā€œI’m addicted to book nooks.ā€

She paused. Blinked. Then stared at me and said…

ā€œWait… what on earth is a book nook?ā€

šŸ¤” That Got Me Thinking…

That moment pretty much sums up how most people discover this hobby.

Confusion.
Curiosity.
Then suddenly… you’re deep into it.

So I asked the community to share their book nook stash…

…and what came back confirmed it:

šŸ‘‰ This isn’t just a hobby
šŸ‘‰ It’s a full-blown obsession

šŸ“¦ It Starts With One…

Nobody plans a collection.

You buy your first kit thinking:
ā€œI’ll just try one and see if I like it.ā€

A couple of weeks later, someone in the group said:

ā€œI’m on my 2nd build and already have 10 stashed… I only started 2 weeks ago.ā€

And that’s how it begins.

šŸ“š Then Things Escalate… Quickly

At first, it feels manageable.

A few kits here and there. Nothing crazy.

Until you start seeing comments like:

ā€œI have 11 in my stash… and 4 more on the way.ā€

ā€œMine’s only at 7… with 3 on the way.ā€

ā€œI feel rather inadequate with only 4ā€¦ā€

And that’s when it hits you…

šŸ‘‰ You’re not behind
šŸ‘‰ You’re just getting started

šŸ° Full-Blown Addiction

“The 100+ Club”

Then come the serious numbers.

The ones that make you pause… and then feel strangely reassured.

ā€œI counted mine yesterday… I have 123 waiting their turn.ā€

ā€œI’ve got about 170… (retirement planning).ā€

ā€œ52 stashed away and one on the way.ā€

ā€œ51 with 9 en-route šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļøā€

ā€œAbout 66… probably double that now.ā€

And my personal favourite:

ā€œ17 kits were delivered while I was away for a month… I’d only bought 4.ā€

At this point, we’re not talking about a hobby anymore.

šŸ‘‰ This is logistics
šŸ‘‰ This is storage strategy
šŸ‘‰ This is commitment

šŸ˜‚ Storage Becomes a Strategy Game

“Storage Problems Begin”

One of the most relatable parts?

Where people are actually keeping these things.

ā€œI’ve emptied a closet… but there are still more in the dining room.ā€

ā€œFive boxes are stored elsewhere… and two are on the way.ā€

ā€œMultiple hiding spots šŸ˜…ā€

ā€œMy stash is all over the place because I ran out of roomā€¦ā€

And then there’s this absolute gem:

ā€œI rearrange them like Tetris because my husband said I can’t buy more if they don’t fit in the bookcase… so I HAVE to make them fit šŸ˜†ā€

This is the moment you realise:

šŸ‘‰ Book nook collecting is part hobby…
šŸ‘‰ Part space optimisation challenge

🧠 It’s Not Just Collecting… It’s Storytelling

What really stood out wasn’t just the volume…

It was the way people engage with the hobby.

One builder said:

ā€œI heavily customise my kits to fit a storytelling narrative… I even write notes so everything fits into my world.ā€

And that’s the difference.

These aren’t just kits.

They’re:

  • miniature worlds
  • ongoing stories
  • creative outlets

The stash isn’t just a backlog…

šŸ‘‰ It’s a library of ideas waiting to happen

šŸ˜… The Denial Phase

Early Stage Denial

Not everyone jumps straight to 100+ kits (yet).

Some are still in what we’ll politely call… early-stage acceptance:

ā€œI have 2… and one on the way šŸ˜…ā€

ā€œOne I’m working on and one in my stash… hoping for more soon.ā€

ā€œI have zero.ā€

(We’ll check back in with that last one in a few months…)

šŸ˜‚ And Then There’s the Honesty…

Some comments didn’t even try to justify it:

ā€œYou really want me to unpack closets? šŸ¤Ŗā€

ā€œI’m not looking haha šŸ˜‚ā€

ā€œI think I hear ICE at my door!!!!ā€

ā€œHere is the duplicate pile šŸ˜‚ā€

At this point, the community isn’t denying anything.

They’re embracing it.

🧠 Confession Time…

I started with one kit.

Now?

I’ve got a backlog that would probably take me a year to finish…

…and I’m still browsing for the next one.

šŸ”„ Why This Hobby Gets You

There’s something dangerously satisfying about book nooks:

  • They’re creative, but structured
  • Detailed, but achievable
  • Relaxing, but rewarding

And every finished piece makes you think:

šŸ‘‰ ā€œJust one moreā€¦ā€

šŸš€ If You’re Just Getting Started…

If you’re still at the
ā€œWhat on earth is a book nook?ā€ stage…

Start simple.

But be warned:

šŸ‘‰ You probably won’t stop at one

(And that’s completely normal… apparently šŸ˜„)

šŸ’¬ Be Honest…

How many kits are in your stash right now?

And more importantly…

How many are actually finished?

Ok this really made me smile. I started with Rolifes Leisure time tearoom and i was hooked . That was about a month ago and ive now completed 6 and am working on my 7th! I already have 6 in my stash and another 12 on the way. My husband keeps saying but where are you going to put them all. My reply is don’t worry about that I will find somewhere. I truly think I have an addiction. I have received such wonderful support from the book nooking community so thank you.

You couldn’t be more correct with the whole article. I laughed, smiled and related to the whole thing. This is a very good article.
