🐾 When Pets Attack: The Funniest Book Nook Build Disasters

There’s one thing no one tells you when you start building book nooks…

It’s not the wiring.
It’s not the tiny pieces.
It’s not even the instructions.

šŸ‘‰ It’s your pets.

Because the moment you sit down to build something delicate, detailed, and time-consuming…
they appear.

And judging by the stories from our community, they don’t just ā€œhelpā€ā€¦
They cause absolute chaos.

🐱 The Usual Suspects (Yes… Mostly Cats)

Porthos immortalised

Let’s start with the obvious offenders…

🐾 ā€œKittenzilla Strikes Againā€

Sometimes there’s no explanation needed — just pure destruction.

  • ā€œKittenzilla!ā€
  • ā€œCurious kittyā€
  • ā€œPorthos did eat the wiring of one kit while I was in the bathroomā€¦ā€

And in one case, Porthos didn’t just cause chaos…
šŸ‘‰ he was immortalised in the build afterwards — top left, forever part of the scene šŸ˜„

🧵 Wires, Glue… and Bad Decisions

We’ve all been there — multitasking mid-build.

ā€œSuperglue and answering phone calls are a seriously unhappy combination. Period. Don’t do it.ā€

Honestly… that one needs framing on the workshop wall.

šŸŖ‘ ā€œI Bought a Cat Bed… Just So I Can Workā€

One builder had to go to extreme lengths:

ā€œI have a cat bed attached to my craft desk… otherwise she’s all in my business.ā€

That’s not a pet.
That’s a supervisor with zero boundaries.

😼 When ā€œCuteā€ Turns Into Chaos

Can I play with it Mom?

šŸ“š The Mini Book Massacre

This one hurts just reading it…

ā€œI had about 50 mini books laid out after three days of cutting… and my cat launched onto the desk and Fred Flintstoned across all of it.ā€

If you’ve ever made mini books…
you felt that in your soul.

🧩 The Accidental Upgrade

Not all disasters are bad in the end:

ā€œMy cat Nova knocked four of my earlier nooks off the shelf… they all broke.ā€

But here’s the twist…

šŸ‘‰ It forced a rebuild — and an upgrade.

ā€œSo she actually made me take the step I was afraid to take.ā€

That’s what we call…
constructive destruction šŸ˜„

🧶 ā€œI’ll Just Sit Here… and Ruin Everythingā€

A classic:

ā€œHer tail flicks everything around and I always end up starting from scratch.ā€

No aggression.
No chaos.
Just… casual destruction.

🐶 Not Just Cats… (But Mostly Cats)

Dogs joined the chaos too:

ā€œI dropped a flower cutout and my dog immediately snatched it and swallowed it.ā€

He’s fine…
šŸ‘‰ just dim šŸ˜‚

And then… the wildcard entry:

šŸ¦† The Duck Bandit

ā€œI had a pet duck who’d steal parts and run off with them.ā€

No photos.
No evidence.
Just a tiny criminal on the loose.

ā¤ļø The Helpers We Secretly Love

Are you sure you’re reading the instructions carefully Dad?

Not all interruptions are disasters.

Some are just… impossible to ignore:

ā€œHe just wants my attention while I’m trying to work.ā€

And one particularly touching story:

Momo — a foster cat recovering from FIP — now thriving, playful, and very keen to ā€œhelpā€ with builds.

šŸ‘‰ From near death to full-time workshop assistant.
That’s what this hobby (and community) is really about.

🧠 Lessons Learned (The Hard Way)

After all these stories, a few key takeaways:

  • Never leave parts unattended
  • Secure your workspace (good luck with that)
  • Accept that pets will get involved
  • And most importantly…

šŸ‘‰ Always expect the unexpected

šŸ“£ Over to You…

Got a story of your own?

A cat that sat on your glue…
A dog that ate your masterpiece…
Or a mysterious missing part that was never seen again…

Drop it in the comments — and if you’ve got photos…

šŸ‘‰ even better šŸ˜„

  1. […] Review by D.J. Gibson. Picked up on Temu, this one has been doing the rounds for a while and it’s easy to see why. The Chamber of Exotic Beasts leans heavily into that fantasy/science lab theme—think jars, creatures, and slightly mad scientist energy—and it delivers a really unique look compared to the usual street scenes and libraries. D.J. is often helped with his builds by his 11 cats, read an amusing story about pets helping here […]
