Thereās one thing no one tells you when you start building book nooksā¦
Itās not the wiring.
Itās not the tiny pieces.
Itās not even the instructions.
š Itās your pets.
Because the moment you sit down to build something delicate, detailed, and time-consumingā¦
they appear.
And judging by the stories from our community, they donāt just āhelpāā¦
They cause absolute chaos.
š± The Usual Suspects (Yes⦠Mostly Cats)

Letās start with the obvious offendersā¦
š¾ āKittenzilla Strikes Againā
Sometimes thereās no explanation needed ā just pure destruction.
- āKittenzilla!ā
- āCurious kittyā
- āPorthos did eat the wiring of one kit while I was in the bathroomā¦ā
And in one case, Porthos didnāt just cause chaosā¦
š he was immortalised in the build afterwards ā top left, forever part of the scene š
𧵠Wires, Glue⦠and Bad Decisions
Weāve all been there ā multitasking mid-build.
āSuperglue and answering phone calls are a seriously unhappy combination. Period. Donāt do it.ā
Honestly⦠that one needs framing on the workshop wall.
šŖ āI Bought a Cat Bed⦠Just So I Can Workā
One builder had to go to extreme lengths:
āI have a cat bed attached to my craft desk⦠otherwise sheās all in my business.ā
Thatās not a pet.
Thatās a supervisor with zero boundaries.
š¼ When āCuteā Turns Into Chaos

š The Mini Book Massacre
This one hurts just reading itā¦
āI had about 50 mini books laid out after three days of cutting⦠and my cat launched onto the desk and Fred Flintstoned across all of it.ā
If youāve ever made mini booksā¦
you felt that in your soul.
š§© The Accidental Upgrade
Not all disasters are bad in the end:
āMy cat Nova knocked four of my earlier nooks off the shelf⦠they all broke.ā
But hereās the twistā¦
š It forced a rebuild ā and an upgrade.
āSo she actually made me take the step I was afraid to take.ā
Thatās what we callā¦
constructive destruction š
š§¶ āIāll Just Sit Here⦠and Ruin Everythingā
A classic:
āHer tail flicks everything around and I always end up starting from scratch.ā
No aggression.
No chaos.
Just⦠casual destruction.
š¶ Not Just Cats⦠(But Mostly Cats)
Dogs joined the chaos too:
āI dropped a flower cutout and my dog immediately snatched it and swallowed it.ā
Heās fineā¦
š just dim š
And then⦠the wildcard entry:
š¦ The Duck Bandit
āI had a pet duck whoād steal parts and run off with them.ā
No photos.
No evidence.
Just a tiny criminal on the loose.
ā¤ļø The Helpers We Secretly Love

Not all interruptions are disasters.
Some are just⦠impossible to ignore:
āHe just wants my attention while Iām trying to work.ā
And one particularly touching story:
Momo ā a foster cat recovering from FIP ā now thriving, playful, and very keen to āhelpā with builds.
š From near death to full-time workshop assistant.
Thatās what this hobby (and community) is really about.
š§ Lessons Learned (The Hard Way)
After all these stories, a few key takeaways:
- Never leave parts unattended
- Secure your workspace (good luck with that)
- Accept that pets will get involved
- And most importantlyā¦
š Always expect the unexpected
š£ Over to Youā¦
Got a story of your own?
A cat that sat on your glueā¦
A dog that ate your masterpieceā¦
Or a mysterious missing part that was never seen againā¦
Drop it in the comments ā and if youāve got photosā¦
š even better š
