MiniCity’s Stellar Castle is an excellent addition to any book nook collection, combining an intricate fantasy castle, celestial imagery, transparent planetary elements and some particularly effective lighting.
This is a kit that rewards careful building. There are a few sections where alignment is critical and some extremely delicate decorative pieces that demand a light touch, but the engineering is generally excellent. The finished result is sturdy, highly detailed and visually impressive.

What’s in the MiniCity Stellar Castle Kit?
Stellar Castle is constructed primarily from printed MDF and printed plexiglass, and the quality of the printing is excellent throughout. There was no noticeable print bleed, and the laser cutting was accurately positioned within the printed areas.
The lighting system consists of five colour-coded static LEDs connected to a touch-control panel.
The instruction manual is printed in colour and is relatively straightforward to follow. MiniCity also includes two useful QR codes: one provides access to a high-definition digital copy of the manual, while the other provides a route to customer support.
Piece fit was consistently good. Only components specifically intended to be glued required adhesive, rather than glue being necessary to compensate for loose joints.
MiniCity also deserves credit for supplying plenty of spares. Many of the smallest and most delicate pieces are duplicated, leaving a surprisingly large collection of spare components at the end of the build.
That is particularly welcome in a kit containing some extremely fine decorative elements.
Building the Stellar Castle Tower
The castle tower is the first major section and arguably the most challenging part of Stellar Castle.
It is assembled from numerous small components across multiple levels, so this isn’t a section to rush.
Particular attention needs to be paid to the orientation of the tower’s floor pieces. They must face specific directions, and an incorrectly positioned piece could cause problems later in the assembly.
Two LEDs are incorporated into the tower and illuminate the structure beautifully once the kit is complete.
There are some lovely tiny details here too, including an exceptionally small black cat perched on one of the balcony railings.
The star-topped spires around the upper railing are considerably less forgiving. These are very delicate, so take particular care when removing them from their MDF boards. It would be very easy to snap a star from its post.
Once the tower is finished, the background section is constructed, followed by the bookcase positioned in front of the tower.
The Clock Wall: Alignment Is Critical
The right-hand wall introduces another of Stellar Castle’s standout features: its clock mechanism.
This is constructed from multiple plexiglass components and incorporates movable gears decorated with constellations.
The wall itself uses three-layer construction, with a middle piece sandwiched between the inner and outer walls. All three layers are glued together, so this is one point where patience really matters.
The three layers need to be aligned accurately before the glue sets.
The completed wall connects to the rest of the book nook using double installation points on all four sides. Even a relatively small alignment error during gluing can therefore cause problems when you try to install it later.
My advice is simple: check the alignment carefully and allow the glue to set properly before continuing.
This is one of those occasions where ten extra minutes of patience can prevent considerably more frustration later.
Building the Plexiglass Solar System
The upper section contains perhaps the most visually distinctive feature of Stellar Castle: its transparent plexiglass solar system.
Three of the plexiglass components are initially fitted into the left wall. The right wall is then installed, connecting those pieces at the opposite side, before the fourth plexiglass section is fitted into the right wall.
Three LEDs illuminate this area. Two slot into dedicated holes, while the third is positioned behind one of the planets.
It’s an effective arrangement and one of the reasons I scored the lighting 9.5/10.
The touch-control panel is then glued to its mounting board, which connects the two walls at the front of the book nook. A second roof panel follows, securing the walls and helping turn what had been a collection of relatively intricate components into a surprisingly rigid structure.
Installing the Back Panel and Dust Cover
The final major construction stage involves fitting the rear panel and faceplate.
There is one important detail to watch here.
The touch-control panel wire must pass underneath the first set of tabs on the clock wall.
If it doesn’t, the rear panel will not sit flush.
The back panel also connects to the double tabs on the clock wall, which is why accurate alignment when constructing that wall earlier in the build is so important. An error several stages earlier can suddenly make itself very obvious here.
Once the rear panel is secured, the dust cover and front faceplate can be installed.
The dust cover incorporates tabs at one end that correspond with the top of the structure, so it can only be fitted in the correct orientation.
Design and Lighting
This is where Stellar Castle really comes into its own.
The entire kit has a strong celestial theme, with astrology, planets, constellations and fantasy architecture combined into one coherent design.
The detailed print work is excellent, but the lighting transforms the completed model.
Illuminating the castle tower and transparent planetary elements gives Stellar Castle considerably more depth when switched on. Rather than simply lighting the interior, the LEDs become an important part of the design itself.
The movable clock gears add another interesting visual feature, with constellations appearing on the exterior surfaces of the rotating gears.
One design decision is slightly puzzling: the windows in the left wall remain completely open. There is no transparent covering across them, meaning the otherwise well-protected interior isn’t entirely sealed against dust.
Considering that the kit includes a dust cover elsewhere, this feels like a curious omission.
It isn’t enough to seriously detract from the finished model, but it is worth knowing before you build it.
How Difficult Is MiniCity Stellar Castle?
I would rate Stellar Castle as an intermediate-level book nook.
It isn’t particularly difficult because of poor engineering—in fact, the engineering is very good. The challenge comes from the number of smaller components, delicate decorative pieces and the need for accurate alignment at several key stages.
The clock wall in particular deserves careful attention.
My build took approximately eight hours to complete.
An experienced builder should find Stellar Castle enjoyable rather than frustrating, while a beginner could certainly tackle it provided they are patient and prepared to work methodically.
Final Verdict
MiniCity Stellar Castle is an excellent book nook.
The print quality is first class, piece fit is consistently good, the instructions are clear and the generous provision of spare delicate parts is very welcome.
Most importantly, the completed model delivers.
The combination of the illuminated castle, transparent solar-system elements, celestial imagery and moving clock gears creates a distinctive book nook that looks particularly impressive when illuminated.
There are a few areas requiring extra care—especially the tower details and three-layer clock wall—and I would have preferred the open windows to have some form of transparent dust protection.
Those are relatively minor criticisms of an otherwise excellent kit.
Stellar Castle earns 92/100 and is particularly easy to recommend to fans of astrology, astronomy and celestial fantasy.
