Not every model build ends with a spectacular result, but sometimes the real reward is the reaction of the person you built it for.
Recently I completed a small illuminated train station book nook for my grandson. Like many children his age, trains capture his imagination, so I thought a miniature railway scene would be the perfect introduction to the world of book nooks.
The build itself was enjoyable – a detailed little station scene with a red locomotive arriving under warm lantern light. As with most book nook kits, the magic really happens when the lighting is switched on for the first time.
When I handed it to Jude and the lights came on, the reaction was priceless. His eyes lit up immediately and he spent the next few minutes peering inside the tiny world, pointing out all the little details. Personalised with photos of he and his sister and their pet dog
Moments like that remind me why I enjoy building these kits so much. Yes, the craftsmanship and engineering are fascinating, but the real joy comes from sharing the finished piece with someone who sees it with fresh eyes.
For my Grandson,it was a magical miniature train station, but maybe not as exciting as a new Spider-Man toy 😀
For me, it was the moment he discovered the charm of book nooks.
And who knows… perhaps the start of the next generation of miniature builders.
